Hope your all keeping well during these truly unprecedented times. I’m here to just give a quick update on York MakerFest. York MakerFest 2020 was planned for Saturday 23/05/2020 but, due to the current government advice and with your safety and the safety of our team being a priority to us, it will not be taking place (again, as announced in March).
Our thoughts go to everyone who has been affected by the pandemic and we wish everyone a safe recovery. But this isn’t forever, there seems to be a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
I would just like to officially announce that there will be no York MakerFest in 2020, your safety is paramount to us and we don’t think that it would be safe to run the event with the uncertainty behind it. We plan to run the event in 2021 and we can confirm it will still be at the National STEM Centre. We will be reviewing the situation throughout the year to see what measures and precautions will need to be taken. We would just like to assure you that York MakerFest is taking this seriously and we will update you on all of the changes to the 2021 event as and when we get them.
I am currently taking a little step back from York MakerFest so I can redirect my attention to York Pi Jam, especially the e-safety program, to make sure everyone can be safe online and get the advice and support they need. Whilst I give York Pi Jam the attention it needs, David Thompson (York MakerFest’s volunteer coordinator) will be manning the ship and making sure to keep you up to date.
Please do not travel to the STEM centre on Saturday for York MakerFest, it is not going ahead.
Instead why not leave a message for our team via the comments section below or give a donation to our emergency fundraiser on JustGiving for St Leonard’s Hospice, our Charity of the Year for 2020 and 2021?
Most importantly, look after yourselves.
See you in 2021!
