Despite York Makerfest being postponed until 2021 our sister event York Pi Jam are still working hard during the Coronavirus lockdown – at home of course!
They have been doing their bit to help out with the “Big Charity Giveback”. They have already helped to raise awareness of and support: St Leonard’s Hospice, Dogs Trust Leeds, BBC’s Big Night In, Kitchen for Everyone York, RSPCA York and Age UK York, plus more charities being announced weekly. For more information click here.
A new venture has been launched – York E-Safe – which is designed to raise awareness of the dangers online, help advise parents on potential dangers and who to go to to report an incident. Please visit yorkesafe.co.uk for more details on this important new scheme.
For digital making skills – they have launched the “Code with Us” scheme which will run every weekend with a new project until the end of lockdown in the UK and it has already been a huge success. There is a chance to win a Jam Hat for your Raspberry Pi! Please visit the York Pi Jam Code with Us website for more details and for the latest project. You can also check out more tutorials to fill any boredom on the Education page.
Finally, for you students interested in Computing, York Pi Jam have put together a guide that will be updated weekly so you can learn Computing at home. The website is for UK year groups 1-12, and can be found at learncomputing.xyz
So things aren’t all bad, whilst you wait for York MakerFest 2021 there are plenty of online resources available on the York Pi Jam website for you to improve your digital making skills or your E-safety knowledge. Please also consider donating to the York MakerFest Charity of the Year emergency fundraiser, for more details or to donate please click here.
Please continue to follow all government advice and we look forward to seeing you at our event when it is safe to do so.
